OUT OF THE DARKroom A short history of the Photofinishing Industry By Peter L M Rockwell and Peter W Knaack |

This book is about the history of photofinishing, a fascinating industry known to very few. Most of us have been using its services for many years and although it is changing rapidly, will continue to do so.
The story is told by two people who have spent much of their working lives in this very international industry and have inside knowledge of how it operates in many countries. Amateur photography or producing pictorial memories is one of the most popular pastimes and this book is a brief history from its beginning in 1839. It describes in layman’s terms what lies behind those snapshots which we and our ancestors have been taking for more than 100 years. Have you ever wondered what happened after you pointed your camera and pressed the button? The book is not about picture taking, but about the photofinishing industry which, tucked into a DARKroom, converts those exposures into the pictures which make up our family histories. Since the beginning of the 20th Century the photo finishing industry has been growing year by year and by the Millennium had become a major part of amateur photography. The growth of digital photography has brought about major changes and now it can truly be said to be OUT OF THE DARKroom. OUT OF THE DARKroom |
